Nothing Like the Feeling of Home...

There is nothing like the feeling of home. Something all five of your senses can enjoy. I am 33 years old (if you ask me in person, I'll always lie and say 29) My parents live 1,200 miles away from me. When I visit them, the first thing I notice when I walk into the house, is the smell of home. The sense of smell triggers memories almost immediately. Memories of growing up in that house with my parents, and spending time with my grandparents as a child. 3 weeks ago, my Grandmother passed away. She was 93. She was an amazing, stubborn woman with some wonderful qualities that we could only wish to have. Something my Grandmother loved to do, was quilt. In her many happy years she made several quilts. I remember visiting her often. She talked about quilting all the time, and would always show me her newest projects. In my possession I have something precious... a quilt that my grandmother hand stitched 35 years ago. (pictured)

I have to tell you, I have a lot of possessions, but in my eyes, this quilt is magical. When I sleep with it, I sleep better. When I feel sad, it makes me happy. When I feel lonely, it makes me feel loved and secure. I'll tell you, it is not in the best shape. My parents used it for 30 years, and I have had it for 3. It has holes, stains, and tears. But there is something special in that quilt. No matter how many times I wash it... It smells exactly like opening the front door to my parents house every time I visit, It smells exactly like home. <3 Now, you might tell me I should put it away for safe keeping, and believe me, I've tried! But, every time I put it away, something in me always brings it back to the couch for those rainy days when comfort is needed. I am sure if my grandmother could choose, she would tell me to use it until it falls apart. And that, I will.

So now, I have chosen to follow in my Grandmothers footsteps, and make quilts! Anything that can bring that much joy to another person is something I want to be a part of. Stay tuned for the updates! I am currently working on my very first full size quilt! I will keep you updated! Have an amazing day. And I hope you always feel at home :)
